The first stage of the asphalting process is called preparation. During this stage any excess dirt will be excavated and removed from site. This is to allow an adequate depth for the asphalt's foundations. Crushed rock will be brought on site and spread. The crushed rock will be screeded, to provide a flat surface that water will run off. Finally, the crushed rock will be compacted to provide a strong foundation for the asphalt to be paved onto.

The second stage is asphalt paving. During this stage asphalt will be brought on site, spread, screeded and compacted into a smooth surface. 
The final product is a strong, smooth, black surface that will last for years.
